Allen Texas

A great place to call Home

Like many towns in Texas, Allen was founded by the railroad. The Houston and Central Texas Railroad established the town of Allen in 1872 and named it for Ebenezer Allen, a state politician, and railroad supporter.

Located 20 miles north of downtown Dallas, Allen is a great place to call home. You have access to Dallas and yet the peace of living in a more country environment.

Allen’s most recognizable landmark is the Old Stone Dam, built in 1874 and used as a steam locomotive watering station by the Houston and Texas Central Railroad. If you are a train aficionado, you might like to know that Allen is the location of the very first train robbery in the state of Texas, that was committed by Sam Bass and his gang back in 1874

Allen is an excellent place for photo opportunities, from the Old Stone Bridge to the 1910 Bridge in Allen Station Park. The bridge leads to an intersection where art and history meet. So, for all you Instagrammers, this is a terrific spot to get that unique Instagram shot. It is the perfect place for pictures and a great place to learn a water sport. Allen Station Park is also the location for Hydrous Wakepark, which has a state-of-the-art system for wakeboarding.

Sports are very important to this community, Allen is the home for the Dallas Sidekicks Soccer and the Allen Americans Hockey at CUTX Event Center. However, there is a lot more to see and do in Allen. Start with the 70 miles of paved parks and trails that invite you to explore the area. Not an outside sports kind of person? Head over to Pinstack to enjoy bowling with some friends or challenge each other to the High Ropes Course, an excellent place for a first date or a night out with friends.

Speaking of dates, we suggest you take your next date to Shakertins in Allen. Shakertins is known for its exciting new cocktails like the Shakertini or their Deja Brew, which can be enjoyed along with their chips and salsa or truffle fries.

Hey music lovers, Allen has plenty for you as well. Don’t miss an opportunity to experience the Allen Philharmonic Orchestra and Symphony Chorus at the Performing Arts Center. There is even a barbershop-style all-female a capella group called Note Ably North Texas Chorus.
